Divers found the body of a missing Putnam deputy who disappeared after a boating accident on the St. Johns River early Friday morning.
Capt. Joseph Wells said Brandee Smith's body was found around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
Smith had four children and was a deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office since 2012.
She was boating on the St. Johns River with her boyfriend Friday morning when their boat struck a channel marker and Smith was ejected.
Law enforcement agencies from all over Florida came to help in the search effort. This included deputies from Clay, Lake, Orange and Volusia counties.
Search crews stayed on the St. Johns River overnight and into Saturday.
Efforts included the use of sonar equipment, which led divers to Smith's body.
Wells said he and Smith shared a love for the river. Smith loved to fish and would often go out on the river before dawn.
Officials with PCSO said it is safe to go out on the river in the dark if you are experienced.
