If you had the bad luck of being attacked by a shark, hopefully you’d have the good luck a Florida fisherman had when he was severely bitten over the weekend near Key Biscayne -- and rescued by a charter boat carrying nurses.
The 40-year-old was spearfishing Saturday morning south of Miami Beach when he was suddenly and viciously attacked by a shark, WPLG reported.
The diver's friends flagged down the passing charter and helped get the injured man onto the boat, where two nurses happened to be waiting, Hot Shot Charters' Kayle Evans told WPLG.
The diver was bleeding profusely from an injury on his arm, which was “mangled,” Evans said, and he was “just blood from arm to foot.”
The nurses quickly applied a tourniquet to the diver's arm as the boat Capt. Sig Ozols called 911, the news station reported. The victim remained calm and kept his arm raised.
Paramedics met the group at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The victim was quickly transported to a Miami hospital, where he remained hospitalized Monday, ABC News reported.
"We were there for a reason, and we made it happen," Ozols told WPLG.
Two other shark attacks were reported in Florida over the weekend about three hours north of Miami in New Smyrna Beach. A woman was bitten in the hand and a man on his foot, according to ABC.
