A Pennsylvania dentist who ran a successful practice lied on applications in order to receive more than $25,000 in food and medical assistance by saying he made substantially less money working at a car dealership, investigators say.
Joseph A. Ciampa, 45, of Harrisburg, has run a successful dental practice, collecting $616,240.71 in insurance claim reimbursements from 2015 to 2018, WHMT reported.
At the same time, Ciampa received $25,546.22 in benefits by lying about his employment and income on applications for government benefits in Dauphin and Philadelphia counties, PennLive reported.
"This type of brazen fraud is offensive to every honest citizen," State Inspector General Bruce R. Beemer said in a statement. "I am proud of the excellent work done by our investigators in exposing this fraud on the public."
Ciampa was arrested and charged with felony fraudulent obtainment of medical assistance and misdemeanor fraudulent obtainment of SNAP benefits, WHMT reported.
