The discovery of a decapitated and gutted shark landed a Miami man in a Florida Keys jail Wednesday.
According to WPLG, 39-year-old Angel Velazquez was fishing on a bridge between Middle Torch Key and Ramrod Key when he was stopped by deputy Donald Stullken, who was on patrol.
Stullken checked Velazquez's cooler and found the bonnethead shark. Decapitating a shark is a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida, and Velazquez was arrested and charged with the crime.
A Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman warned fishermen to use Velazquez’s incident as an example of the importance of knowing the rules before fishing.
