Couple spends $11K for Spanish island vacation on Airbnb, finds out rental doesn't exist

A dream vacation has turned into a nightmare for a couple who just wanted to have a luxurious trip to the Spanish island Ibiza.

Ian Feltham and Denise Feltham booked an Airbnb for two weeks. The deal was for a lavish penthouse that promised a Turkish bath, hot tub and a marble-decked terrace, CNN reported.

It was also a dog-friendly location so they could take their two Yorkshire terriers.

The cost for the two-week getaway was about $11,800, CNN reported.

The listing had 37 reviews with an average rating of four out of five stars, The Times reported.

But the deal was not real.

CNN Travel discovered the promised accommodations were made up of pieces from other condominiums that were either for sale or rent at the Las Boas complex

The couple confirmed that photos on Las Boas' website were the same ones used in the listing that they had signed up for.

Ian Feltham said Airbnb didn't do enough when he and his wife first questioned the listing that felt too good to be true.

Ian Feltham said that he was passed around to Airbnb employees and when he tried to contact Lux Travel Collective, the group that posted the rental on the Airbnb site, he received no response.

Despite their saying they didn't have enough information from Lux Travel Collective about the property, the Felthams traveled from their home in the U.K. to Ibiza and were turned away by Las Boas employees. They had to find another dog-friendly location for their holiday, CNN and The Times reported.

Airbnb told CNN that it is refunding the amount the Felthams paid for the nonexistent property rental.
