When high school sweethearts Ferris and Margaret Romaire were married on Nov. 24, 1946 in Morgan City, Louisiana, Frankie Carle and His Orchestra was enjoying an eight-week run at the top of the music charts with "Rumors Are Flying."

It was a simple ceremony, a 15-minute service and reception at the home of Margaret's parents that took place six months after Ferris returned home from military service. But no one had a camera, so the happy couple had no picture memories from that happy day.

Carter told the Huffington Post that Ferris' philosophy "giving each other space and respecting one another" and also "admitting when you are wrong, except that Margaret is never wrong!"

"If you ask Margaret she would say, 'saying you're sorry, except that Ferris has a hard time doing that,'" Carter told the Huffington Post. "If a problem came up they solved it. It was more important to compromise and move on than to be right. Two was always better than one."
