Two Florida man went to jail and face $1,000 bonds each after police said they stole less than $16 in chicken from a grocery store over the weekend.
Ramon Maldonado, 20, entered a Publix in the Leesburg, Florida-area on Saturday and placed $9.89 worth of chicken wings into a grocery bag he brought with him, the Daily Commercial reported. In a separate incident Christopher Ludwig, 54, put $5.27 worth of chicken tenders in his backpack during a visit to the store on Sunday, according to the newspaper.
The total of their $1,000 bonds each is "125 times greater than the amount of food they allegedly took," the Daily Commercial reported.
Jail records from Lake County showed authorities released Maldonado on bond around noon Wednesday. Ludwig remained jailed Wednesday afternoon.
