A couple in Pottsville, Pa., were charged on Tuesday after authorities said they helped to rob a grocery store and used some of the stolen cash to buy a $1 million winning lottery ticket.
Joan Lechleitner, 51, and her fiancé, Kerry Titus, 54, were with two former employees — Samantha Schaeffer and Tyler Schappell — of the Cressona-area Agway grocery store when they stole more than $175,000 by ringing up fake returns and pocketing the money, PennLive reports. The couple bought a winning Cash5 lottery ticket, which was worth more than $1,047,618, and shared it with four others for an earnings of $264,904.50.
"(Defendants are seen) at various times purchasing lottery tickets and scratch off lottery tickets" the affidavits stated, according to the Republican Herald.
At the time of the lotto win, Lechleitner told the Republican Herald that she purchased the winning ticket in September of last year, and the couple planned on buying a pickup truck with the winnings. PennLive added she said at the time that she also wanted to take a honeymoon to Mexico and buy a backyard pool.
Lechleitner and Titus face theft, conspiracy, and records tampering charges.
