A Detroit company has come up with a new product that uses old hockey sticks.
Terry Johnson and his company, Original Stix, turns used and broken hockey sticks into cellphone cases.
Johnson said hockey sticks are not made out of wood anymore, but rather a composite. They don't get recycled; instead they fill landfills, WDIV reported.
So Johnson and some of his Michigan State fraternity brothers partnered with a hockey stick repair shop in Canada.
From 200 game-used hockey sticks, used by the New York Rangers, the company made 1,000 cases that were sold at Madison Square Garden.
