Update: 12:20 p.m.: The search for 14-year-olds Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos will not be completely closed, U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Mark Fedor said. If officials get new information, they could continue looking.
But the active search will be ending at sunset, which is set for 8:19 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
Fedor said the Coast Guard spared no expense too look for the teens.
“The money never came into the equation,” Fedor said at the news conference in Opa-Locka. “My focus entirely has been on finding the two boys.”
The families were informed Wednesday about when the search would end, Fedor said.
Families of the boys are declining to speak with the media, according to a statement.
The families said they are committed to continuing private search efforts by renting private planes and boats, according to the statement. The family also plans to continue raising money through fundraisers and the GoFundMe account, which has raised more than $284,000.
U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy also released a statement today urging the Coast Guard to continue to the search.
The statement read: “I have a simple message for the Coast Guard: Keep looking. Water temperatures are warm, and Austin and Perry know the water well. Our community is incredibly grateful for the Cuttermen, Aviation Crewmembers, and Search and Rescue Planners of the Seventh Coast Guard District, who are scouring the Atlantic Coast for Austin and Perry. It has been long, thorough, and exhausting. But the search is not over. I urge the Coast Guard in the strongest possible terms to continue searching until our boys are found.”
The full statement from the families reads:

Update, noon: The search for the two Tequesta teens missing since last Friday will be suspended at sunset, the Coast Guard announced at a news conference.
Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, both 14, went missing on July 24 after taking the boat into the water on a fishing trip. A family member called to report them missing later that day.
The Coast Guard found their boat 67 square nautical miles off the coast of Volusia County Sunday. The search has continued since with the boundaries stretching as far north as South Carolina.
The family has raised more than $300,000 for a private search effort.
The boys’ mothers — Pamela Cohen, Perry’s mother, and Carly Black, Austin’s mother — have been adamant that their boys, with years of experience on the water, would be able to suervive the boat’s capsizing.
The agonizing story of the boys has been in the national spotlight as CNN, The Today Show, The New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today have all been in Palm Beach County to report.
