Haydn Sonnad, 16, told his father that he really wanted a Tesla.
His father agreed under one condition: Sonnad had to help pay for the car in some way.
So the teen came up with an idea: Tesloop.
"I came up with the idea of transporting passengers back and forth through Vegas on the weekends to make up for the lease payments," Sonnad told KTLA.
Via Tesloop passengers can travel between Los Angeles and Las Vegas for $85 per trip.
Sonnad, who cannot legally drive passengers at his age, employs "pilots" to drive customers on the four-hour trips.
"This is the most comfortable, the most pleasant and, for the passengers, the most productive vehicle you could take a trip of this length in," one pilot driver said. "It's a lot of peoples' first time inside a Tesla, so they're really fascinated about the cars (and) the technology."
Plus, drivers and passengers don't have to pay for fuel costs. The cars fill up at Tesla charging stations along the route.
Sonnad said soon the company will begin a program where riders can volunteer to drive for a free ride. These volunteers wouldn't have to pay the price of a ticket but also would not receive payment from Tesloop.
