A boy was bullied for two years for having long hair, but his reason for doing so was incredible — to donate it to cancer patients, Buzzfeed reports.

Christian McPhilamy became interested in donating hair when he saw a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital commercial about pediatric cancer. He was only six at the time, but was determined to help make wigs for children in need.

"I told him that's where you donate your hair to kids with cancer, to make wigs from your hair," Christian's mom, Deeanna Thomas, said to Florida Today reporters. "And he said, I want to do that."

As Christian grew out his hair for two years, he had many classmates but also adults bully him for his feminine look.

Thomas wrote on her Facebook page about Christian's bullying problems and wrote, "From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to. Even still, he has never once, strayed from his goal and always took the time to educate others …. I am one proud mommy as always."

A few weeks ago Christian cut his hair and was able to donate 10 long pony tails that were 12 inches each. The long locks were donated to Children With Hair Loss.

“I was blown away,” said Christian’s stepdad, Scott Norris, to Florida Today. “I was just filled with joy and pride, and it was awesome.”
