Police said they were called around 5:40 p.m. Saturday to Again Thrift & More in Mankato for a medical call involving a 4-year-old. Medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No foul play is suspected in the boy’s death.

The boy was identified in an online fundraiser aimed at raising money to cover his funeral expenses as Ryu S. Pena, according to the Star Tribune.

Police Cmdr. Daniel Schisel told the Minneapolis newspaper that Ryu “apparently got the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing caught on a hanger attached to the wall.”

Family members were in the store when the child died. Schisel told the Star Tribune that the hanging was “a tragic accident.”

“God gained another angel last night,” Ryu’s aunt, Jessica Cuevas, wrote on the family’s GoFundMe page. “The few short years he was here with us, he never failed to make our day. Ryu was such a sweet boy, with a gorgeous smile (and) a unique little personality.”

Cuevas said Ryu became a big brother four months ago. He is survived by his younger brother, an older sister and his parents.

Police continue to investigate the case.
