The body of a missing teenager last seen walking home in heavy rains is believed to have been found in the Merrimack River in Massachusetts, police said Sunday afternoon.
A body spotted in the water in Tyngsborough is believed to be that of Jacob Goulet, 16, who went missing Friday night and is presumed to have fallen into an open manhole. Official identification of the body is pending, but based on the clothing description and body condition, police believe it is Goulet.
Frances Lee Sanders told FOX25 she called police Friday night when she saw an umbrella and a hat lying near the open manhole near the intersection of Main and Water streets.
The following morning, Goulet's family called police and said the 16-year-old hadn't come home the previous night.
Police say surveillance footage showed Goulet with the umbrella and hat as he walked on a path that led to the manhole. Emergency crews then launched a "massive" search of the area, including of the sewer system and in the Nashua and Merrimack rivers.
The body, spotted from the air Sunday afternoon, washed up in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, which is just south of Nashua.
