The poll is closed, now it's up to officials to determine if Boaty McBoatface will be the name of the next Natural Environment Research Council vessel.

The suggestion got 124,109 votes and made the competition by the British research group go viral in March. The second most popular name was Poppy Mai, named for a 16-month-old girl with an incurable cancer.

The final decision on the name will be made by Duncan Wingham, chief executive of the research group, according to The Guardian.
