The assault of a helpless blind man in Philadelphia — captured on video.
The footage shows the victim on the ground being kicked and stomped on. What may be even more shocking are the bystanders who see the beating taking place. (via Philadelphia Police Department)
One watches the whole thing while another sees the assault, pauses and then continues down the street. (via WPVI)
The Philadelphia Police Chief spoke on the inaction by the bystanders and how he believes it’s becoming a prevalent problem.
"That's becoming more and more common. We had a situation last week where … there are dozens of people standing around but they're all filming what's going on as opposed to try to help… " (via WTXF)
A writer for Gawker expresses how hard it is to stomach a clip like this writing,
“While the whole ‘those bystanders should have helped’ argument is more than a little simple—helping is often difficult and dangerous—the video shows one dude just crossing street, glancing back at the guy getting stomped, and continuing on. No stopping and yelling, no nothing. It’s ... heartbreaking.”
After beating and robbing the blind man, the attacker casually grabs a backpack and walks away. While no one rushes to victims aid or calls the police.
The victim's name has not been released but he sustained injuries to his head and face. (via WPIX)
The Philadelphia Police Department has released this video of the suspect captured by another video camera in hopes it will help them catch the suspect.
