Law enforcement said a 78-year-old woman who was believed to have been abducted has been found safe.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the Susan Boxx was found in Southwest Georgia in Americus, which is near Albany, Thursday morning. A Georgia State Trooper found Boxx in her vehicle on the side of the road and out of gas.
Boxx was making her way through Georgia using her credit cards.
“Ms. Boxx displayed no signs of dementia or forgetfulness with her family members,” JSO Director Tom Hackney said.
JSO said a separate unrelated burglary that set the alarm off Wednesday night brought her son to check on the home on Sonora Drive. Boxx’s son found the front door kicked in and Boxx’s purse missing, but her cell phone left behind.
Neighbor Izetta Ross also told WJAX-TV there have been a series of break-ins on the street.
"When I first moved here it wasn't even a month, and the house across the street was broken into,” Ross said. “Just all around here houses have been broken into."
