A bag that was being loaded onto an airplane at Chicago's Midway International Airport exploded Monday afternoon, but there were no injuries, authorities said.
Police responded to a call at the airport shortly before 12:20 p.m. local time, police spokeswoman Karie James told the Chicago Tribune in an email.
The bag was being loaded from the tarmac onto a flight when it detonated, James told the newspaper.
The police department's bomb squad responded, and the scene was being cleared within an hour, the Tribune reported.
The luggage incident at Midway Airport has been cleared. There is no public safety threat. Airport operations are resuming.
