Parents who thought their baby wouldn’t live more than a few hours after birth say their son is beating the odds.

Doctors in Utah told Ben and Alyssa Reidhead to plan their son’s funeral before he was even born.

"They just kept saying oh he'll be born but he'll only live for a couple minutes or if you go through labor, he'll probably pass away during labor," Alyssa told KSTU. "We picked out a casket."

When the baby was delivered via cesarean section on May 17, the parents and doctors heard a sound they weren’t expecting.

“We heard a cry and that made me cry and him cry because we were like, ‘Oh! He’s crying!'” Alyssa said.

Ever since, Will has defied the odds.

Doctors diagnosed Will with cutis aplasia. He is missing the back of his skull, and his brain is only covered by a thin membrane.

Though Will faces a difficult road ahead, his parents are grateful to have him. The family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his medical costs. According to the page, they didn't prepare to bring Will home, so they did not purchase any of the necessary supplies.
