An Auburn University gymnast who dislocated both of her knees at the NCAA regional meet in April achieved her goal of walking down the aisle for her wedding, the Opelika-Auburn News reported.
Samantha Cerio, who was injured April 5 during the NCAA Regional semifinals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also tore multiple ligaments during the meet. Cerio, who graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering in May, was performing a floor routine when she landed too soon after launching a into a handspring double front. The impact dislocated her knees.
Cerio, 22, used crutches to cross the stage when she graduated in May, but walked down the aisle without them to marry her fiance, Trey Wood, on June 1.
Cerio posted photographs to her Instagram account, and several friends posted photos on Twitter.
In an interview with Today, Cerio said she urged people not to share the video of her injury, explaining that her pain was "not your entertainment."
"I think it's made people more aware of what they see on the internet,'' Cerio said. "When you see something like that, you kind of want to watch it just to see what happens, because you're curious about it, but at the same time, you don't think about the people that it could impact."
But Cerio's wedding day was a time to celebrate. She posted photos of her friends on the beach, members of the bridal party enjoying wine, and the newlyweds cutting their wedding cake, Today reported.
Cerio also enjoyed her first dance with her husband, and danced with her father, the magazine reported
