The State Attorney's Office is planning to drop attempted murder charges against a mother who drove a van carrying her children into the ocean in Daytona Beach earlier this year.
WFTV's Blaine Tolison found prosecutors have agreed that Ebony Wilkerson will plead not guilty by reason of insanity. Three counts of attempted murder and felony aggravated child abuse will be dropped as part of the plea deal.
The state attorney's expert determined Wilkerson had a psychotic episode when she drove the kids into Atlantic Ocean in April.
The plea deal was reached 15 minutes prior to Wilkerson's pretrial hearing on Tuesday.
A new hearing has been scheduled for Friday.
