Two suspects who are believed to be involved in the shooting outside of a casino that led to the death of one man and serious injury to a New Jersey police officer were arrested Saturday.

Two Atlantic City police officers saw a robbery in progress around 2:34 a.m. Saturday near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

They saw six males, three were victims of an armed robbery committed by the others, including Jerome Damon, 25, who died, officials said.

The officers were shot at when they got out of their patrol car. One was hit, the other returned fire, hitting the suspect who fled. He was found dead about 1 1/2 blocks away. The other men all ran in different directions.

The three men who were the robbery victims cooperated with investigators and were released, officials said.

New Jersey State Police located Martell Chisholm, 19, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, and Demetrius Cross, 28, in Millville, New Jersey. They were arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of conspiracy to commit possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.

 "These charges are the result of an unprecedented effort by law enforcement from local, county, state and federal agencies who worked tirelessly throughout the day to identify and locate the suspects," said Diane Ruberton, acting prosecutor.
