Prom is a special time in a high school senior's life, and an Arizona teenager Jaden Koruba is thinking about dresses.
Not for herself, but for other girls who might not be able to afford them.
Koruba, 17, of Litchfield Park, is collecting prom dresses and hopes to pass them along to girls in foster homes, KNXV reported.
Koruba, who was adopted at 15, knows the plight of girls in foster homes and wants to give back. She set a goal of collecting 200 dresses and, with the help of her mother, has collected 75 already, the television station reported.
"A lot of foster homes either have a lot of kids in them, or they just don't have a lot of money in general," Koruba told KNXV. "I saw all of the girls, and I feel like the foster system need some more love and if I can give a little bit of that love while I'm alive or while I'm in high school then I am willing to do that."
Stacy Koruba encouraged her daughter to pursue her goal.
"Prom is very expensive, and a dress is not something many people can afford, especially foster parents," Stacy Koruba told the West Valley View. "My daughter wanted to try to give a foster teen a special memory that could potentially last a lifetime."
Jaden Koruba, who attends Verrado High School, has received dresses through Facebook groups and Nextdoor.
"Just knowing that someday someone will wear at least one of these dresses to prom is really nice," she told KNXV. "The fact that I can help at least one person in the world to make a difference for a couple of hours."
