Austin's phone was recovered March 18 with the boat that carried the teens out to sea. The family sent the iPhone to Apple in the hopes it could be restored and information recovered.

Apple informed Micahel Pike, the Stephanos family lawyer, that the phone could not be restored.

Blu Stephanos, Austin's father, thanked Apple and said the fact the phone can no longer function doesn’t diminish its value as a “cherished memory of (their) beloved son.”
