The Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is asking women to send them bra eye closures from the fasteners, which will then be used to wire shut the broken shell in order to help the turtle heal, WRAL reported.

The animal rescue group has seen about 40 turtles with broken shells a week for the last month, many from being run over by cars, lawnmowers and boats, WRAL reported.

An Iowa animal rehabilitation group originally came up with the idea, using the fasteners and small zip ties.
