An Alabama man who escaped jail and was recaptured a week later was found with a loaded gun inside a detention center, police said.
Lawrence Lassiter Jr. was arrested July 26 by the Montgomery Police Department but later escaped from custody, WSFA reported.
According to court documents, Lassiter was arrested again Sunday on a third-degree burglary charge when police found him near the scene of the robbery, the television station reported.
Montgomery Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jarrett Williams said Lassiter was "later found to be in possession of contraband once at the Montgomery County Detention Facility," WSFA reported.
According to court documents, police found a loaded Keltec .22 automatic handgun, the television station reported. Lassiter then was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, along with previous charges of unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle and third-degree escape, which stemmed from his first arrest.
Lassiter remains in jail in lieu of a $48,000 bond, WSFA reported
“Additional details related to the third-degree escape and first-degree promoting prison contraband charges are not available at this time,” Williams told the television station.
