An Alabama homeowner who police said was tired of break-ins in his neighborhood took matters in his own hands, but it ended with the man being questioned by authorities.

Burglars had previously broken into the home of Nathaniel Johnson's, 68.

He recently made his home look like he wasn't there. He hid his car at a neighbor's home, turned off the lights and waited, WALA reported.

Police said Cleveland Gully, 31 broke the lock to Johnson's home. Johnson tackled Gully to the ground and tied his hands behind him, police said.

Gully was known for breaking into homes in the area, police told AL.com.

Johnson took Gully to a tree and tied him up, police said.

Police told WALA that Johnson used tape and rope to make sure Gully couldn't escape.

Gully had "multiple layers of masking tape that he had wrapped around his mouth and all the way around his head," police said.

Johnson left Gully to go to a neighbor's home to call police, but by the time police got to Johnson's home, Gully was dead.

Police are trying to figure out what caused Gully's death.

Gully had no visible injuries other than cuts from wire that Johnson used to detain him, AL.com reported.

No charges have been filed against Johnson, but police said they may present evidence to a grand jury and let it decide whether there is enough to bring charges against him, AL.com reported.
