2013 Hurricane Names

Weather forecasters are predicting another busy Atlantic hurricane season. The storms will get their names from an alphabetical list of 21 names selected by the World Meteorological Organization: Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dorian, Erin, Fernand, Gabrielle, Humberto, Ingrid, Jerry, Karen, Lorenzo, Melissa, Nestor, Olga, Pablo, Rebekah, Sebastien, Tanya, Van and Wendy. Let's hope we never meet them.

Let's hope we never meet them.

Andrea, the first named storm of 2013, won't be as tough as the Andrea from "The Walking Dead," we hope. And we really hope the storm isn't followed by legions of zombies.

Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" will stay high and dry in 2013, we hope. The smooth crooner has spent plenty of time in the tropics. Let's hope the storm named Barry can't say the same.

You have to do a bit of looking to find a "Chantal." But, Paris Hilton found one, Chantal Biya, the first lady of Cameroon. Let's hope the storm isn't as big as her hair.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray," the only published novel by famed writer Oscar Wilde, is known for both humor and horror. Actor Ben Barnes played the part of Dorian Gray in the 2009 film (above). We hope the storm doesn't hang around as long as the "real" Dorian Gray.

If you have to run into a storm, one that shares a name with sports reporter Erin Andrews might be an attractive option. In this photo, Andrews is interviewing former UGA baseball coach Dave Perno, recently sidelined after the Bulldogs' losing season.

What's a picture of four wax figures of the Swedish band ABBA doing in a slide about Fernand? Good question. We don't really have a good answer. Fernand is a name that not many celebrities share, according to our hasty research. But ABBA did have a pretty cool song in 1976 called "Fernando." It was their biggest hit, and is one the few singles in history to have sold more than 10 million physical copies.

High school students who've struggled to graduate on time can always take inspiration from actress Gabrielle Carteris, who was in her 30s while starring on the popular 1990s TV show Beverly Hills 90210. Let's hope tropical storm Gabrielle, like Carteris' film career, never really takes off.

Philadelphia Phillies player Humberto Quintero would likely tell you that being a catcher is not easy. You have to know how to verbally rattle hitters while remembering to catch a 100-mph fastball and block the plate. And then there's hitting. The breeze you feel the next time the Phils are in town is probably not coming from a named storm, it's likely coming from the Phillies' bats.

"We'll always have Paris" and Ingrid Bergman, thankfully. Hopefully Mother Nature doesn't do something to destroy our image of the wonderful name and actress.

Jerry Seinfeld (the least goofy looking fellow in the photo above) has quite a run on TV. "Seinfeld" is a classic sitcom that is still good for plenty of laughs. If Hurricane Jerry comes ashore, will anyone take it seriously? And will George be able to get any stranded whales off the beach quickly? At least it's not Hurricane Newman. That would likely slow mail delivery.

Author Karen Blixen, whose name was perhaps too similar to that of a reindeer, wrote under many pen names, most notably Isak Dinesen. But you probably know her best as the creator of books that became the Academy Award-winning films "Out of Africa" and "Babette's Feast." Most tropical storms form"Out of Africa" and we hope tropical storm Karen stays "Out of Sight."

"Snake Eater" Lorenzo Lamas (right) is known for many things -- masculine good looks, the invention of the "Lamas" school of acting (which involves forgetting lines and shirts), and briefly marrying Playboy bunnies. So, if Hurricane Lorenzo does form, it probably won't last long.

Melissa Gilbert was America's darling while the child star of TV's "Little House on the Prairie." Then she dated Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, John Cusack, Scott Baio and Billy Idol and struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. Recently, she appeared on "Dancing with the Stars," but after eight weeks she became the first ever to get the boot on their birthday. Let's hope tropical storm Melissa doesn't take eight weeks to disappear.

Actor Nestor Carbonell has appeared in Batman movies and the TV series "Suddenly Susan" and "Lost." It would OK with us if any storm named Nestor got "suddenly lost" at sea.

Model and actress Olga Kurylenko rose to fame as a "Bond girl" in 2008's "Quantum of Solace." More recently she's appeared in a post-apocalypse film with Tom Cruise. Let's hope Hurricane Olga doesn't blow anyone to "Oblivion."

Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (seen here with his family) had the skills of a master as a child. As an adult he was responsible for significant developments in painting, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. As a storm, Pablo will probably do something equally groundbreaking ... like head to the South Pole and ruffle penguin feathers.

Rebekah is a name from the Old Testament, but photos from that era are difficult to come by. More recently, Rebekah Brooks ran a British media empire until being implicated in a phone hacking scandal. She resigned in 2011 as CEO of News International and is expected to face criminal charges this fall. If there's a storm this year named Rebekah, I would prefer it not make news.

Sebastien Olivier Bourdais is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the Champ Car World Series, having won four successive championships from 2004 to 2007. A storm named Sebastien will hopefully not move so fast.

"Delta Dawn, what's that flower you've got on?" is a question that has haunted countless childhoods. Tanya Tucker (seen here with country legend George Jones) sang that memorable line in 1972 while just 13. She's still singing, but her last big hit was in the 1980s. If there is a storm named Tanya, we hope it doesn't blow any mansions (or any other kind of home) into the sky.

Van Morrison, one of the few singers to be named after a type of vehicle, is best known for the legendary albums "Astral Weeks" (1968) and "Moondance" (1970). His 1974 live album is considered one of the best ever. As a storm, let's hope Van is a flop.

TV host Wendy Williams isn't afraid to shake things up -- she once fired up a Slim Jim on stage -- or make people angry (just ask Lil' Kim). Let us hope any storm named Wendy is less tumultuous.
