It may seem difficult to think about the fall 2016 debates when there are still 20 candidates in the race, but we now know the dates and sites.

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Wednesday the schedule for three 2016 presidential debates and one vice presidential.

The schedule is:

  • First presidential debate: Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio
  • Vice presidential debate: Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
  • Second presidential debate: Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Washington University in St. Louis
  • Third presidential debate: Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas

In a statement, the commission said that it will release details on format and eligibility criteria “in the near future,” while the moderators would be announced next year.

“We appreciate the many applications we received and are delighted with the sites we have selected,” said commission co-chairs Frank Fahrenkopf and Mike McCurry in the statement. “We look forward to working with these fine universities and their students and communities to bring these important civic events to the nation.”
