Three people became trapped on I-20 Sunday morning after a driver caused a five-vehicle crash and then drove away, DeKalb County police said.

The hit-and-run crash shut down all lanes on I-20 East near Panola Road for hours, police said.

According to a police incident report from the wreck, investigators do not have a description of the car that sparked the crash.

That vehicle hit a Jeep Wrangler before driving away, the police report stated. That caused three other vehicles behind it to crash. The occupants ranged in age from 16 to 54.

Two 54-year-old men became trapped inside a GMC van, and a 41-year-old woman was stuck inside her Toyota Camry. The three victims each had to be extricated by fire department crews and were taken to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.

Other drivers were diverted off the interstate onto Panola Road, causing backups. The scene was cleared about 10:30 a.m.
