At around 2:15 pm. Wednesday afternoon, Walton County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home at the corner of Hwy 78 and Ho Hum Hollow, said Chief Deputy Keith Brooks. A family member had called police after seeing a body laying inside the house.

Deputies decided to do a welfare check and when they arrived, they found an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound to the chest, Brooks said.

Lonnie Franklin Beck, 56, of Monroe, was declared dead at the scene.

As of Friday afternoon, police have one suspect, who was in custody due to unrelated charges, Brooks said. He would not release any further information on the case.
