An elderly Louisiana couple reported missing over the weekend was found safe Tuesday morning near the Marietta Square.

Willie Billiot, 83, and Demetrius Billiot, 77, left Rome at noon Saturday and were supposed to be heading to Blue Ridge, according to police. But the two never made it, and a statewide Mattie's Alert was issued for the couple, both in failing health.

Officer David Baldwin, spokesman for the Marietta Police Department, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he was on his way to work when he heard a 911 dispatcher say a witness spotted the couple’s car on Church Street. Baldwin then also spotted the couple’s vehicle, a gold Kia Sorento.

“I ended up doing a traffic stop on the car,” Baldwin said. “They were very, very sweet people. But they had no idea where they were at.”

Baldwin said the Billiots had gas and had eaten, but couldn’t explain how they ended up in Cobb County. The two were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital to be evaluated, but appeared fine, he said.
