A Fayetteville man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on an Alabama highway Tuesday, officials said.

Marius M. Hillius, 28, was hit by a 1994 Peterbilt truck on I-59 in Etowah County while walking on the interstate,  Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Trooper Curtis Summerville said.

The crash occurred about 3:15 a.m., and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Summerville did not say whether any charges would be filed.

The incident is under investigation.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical??condition, but he??is now in serious condition. Two other people who were in the car were detained for questioning, Conroy said.
