Expect to save a penny at Metro Atlanta gas pumps this week.

According to GasBuddy.com, the current average price for a gallon of regular gas this week is $3.666.

That’s down from $3.672 last week, the gas web site said, but still roughly 16 cents more than we were paying last year this time.

“Overall, there’s been a dramatic increase in demand,” said AAA Motor Club spokesman, explaining the somewhat flat price change. “That’s keeping prices from plunging.”

Jenkins told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that typically, prices decrease by as much as 5 cents per week after the spring peak. But the current pricing trend isn’t unusual.

There’s still a long way to go to reach the 12-month low of $3.156, and metro Atlantans are still paying more per gallon than the national average of $3.623.

The trend is about the same for people driving diesel vehicles, with per-gallon prices this week a penny less than last week’s average of $3.91.
