A 60-year-old man died when a vehicle he was repairing came out of gear and rolled on top of him, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Stokes, of Bogart, was working Tuesday afternoon as a subcontractor at VW Parts and Imports in Gainesville when the vehicle started moving, according to Deputy Nicole Bailes with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

The car rolled on top of Stokes as he was assisting a customer, Bailes said.

“The vehicle was impounded and will be inspected by a professional mechanic to determine the reasoning for the vehicle to come out of gear,” Bailes said in an emailed statement.

No charges are expected to be filed.
