The Marietta and Smyrna Police Departments will host crime-fighting seminars on Thursday - one for taxi drivers and the other about firearms safety.

Both classes require registration.

In Marietta, the Taxi Cab Driver Safety Seminar for the city's taxi drivers and companies will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Marietta Police Department, 240 Lemon St. NE. Topics will include dangers faced by taxi drivers, how they can read their customers, driver safety with customers, driver roadway safety, how to be a good witness and what to do in an emergency.

A Spanish translator will be available.

Register with name, company and number of requested seats to Dbaldwin@MariettaGa.gov.

In Smyrna, the firearms safety class will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smyrna City Hall, 2800 King St.

The class will be conducted by law enforcement officers who are also state-certified firearms instructors. In addition to firearms safety, topics will be legal issues, firearms selection and an overview of various weapons systems.

Smyrna residents also may speak with crime prevention officers about home safety and security and crime prevention tips.
