Officials have arrested a man they believe is linked to a violent New Year’s Day home invasion in Troup County.
Steven Shane Aultman was wanted in connection with the incident, which the sheriff’s office said happened about 9:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of South State Line Road. Officials said Aultman and another man broke into a man’s home, hit him in the back of the head with an unknown object and shot him in the chest.
They allegedly took items from a safe and left in a gray Corvette. They also took the victim’s gold Jeep Wrangler, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim, 47, was taken to a hospital in Columbus for treatment.
Later in the day, sheriff’s deputies spotted the Corvette and arrested one of the suspects after a “brief vehicle pursuit.” Officials said the car had been stolen from within LaGrange. That suspect’s name was not released.
On Wednesday afternoon, Aultman was arrested and the victim’s Jeep was recovered, the sheriff’s office said.
He had been considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff’s office said.
