A 27-year-old Marietta man was struck by a car on I-75 in Atlanta as he ran from a state trooper after a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

James Taudrae Seabon was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a broken pelvis, according to the Georgia State Patrol. He was charged with obstruction and darting into traffic.

The incident occurred just before the start of rush hour around 3:45 p.m., when the trooper stopped a vehicle on I-75 southbound near Moores Mill Road, GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said.

Wright said the trooper detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and in the breath of a passenger while the trooper talked to him.

“While attempting to detain the passenger, the man ran from the scene, across the southbound lanes of the interstate, scaled the median wall, and tried to cross the northbound lanes,” Gordy said. “The man ran into the path of a northbound Buick, was hit and thrown onto the windshield.”
