A 20-year-old DeKalb County man died early Wednesday morning after being shot in the stomach outside his apartment.

The shooter — believed to be an acquaintance known simply as “Quan” — fled the scene, according to a witness.

An incident report said DeKalb County police were called about 1:30 a.m. to the Harvard Place Apartments on Hillandale Drive in Lithonia, where they found Joseph Nashun Harden being treated in an ambulance for a gunshot wound to the stomach. Harden later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

According to the report, Harden’s mother told police that she “heard several shots coming from directly in front of her apartment.” She went outside to find her son holding his stomach and the man known as Quan running away, police said.

“The complainant stated that she asked the victim what happened and if Quan had shot him,” the incident report said. “The complainant stated that the victim did not respond verbally, however pointed in the direction as if to point out where the suspect ran towards.”

Harden’s mother told police she was familiar with Quan but did not know any other identifying information. She said her son had been with the alleged shooter throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.

DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. Steven Fore said Wednesday afternoon that no suspects had been arrested in connection with the shooting.

No further information was immediately available.
