Police were able to track down a suspect vehicle — but not a suspect — after a man was shot and killed in southeast Atlanta on Wednesday night.

Atlanta police Capt. Michael O’Connor said the department received the 911 call shortly before 8 p.m. and responded to 1097 Kipling St. SE to find a man in his mid-30s shot in the head. That man, whose identity was not immediately released, later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The victim was likely driving an Infiniti at the time of the shooting, O’Connor said.

“At this time it’s an active investigation and we are uncertain of the motive,” O’Connor said. “We did pursue a vehicle that we believe to be of interest in this case.”

That vehicle, believed to be a Ford Crown Victoria, was recovered on Lakewood Avenue and was being processed for evidence, O’Connor said. No suspects had been detained.

The shooting location is on a residential street across Moreland Avenue from the Starlight Drive-In Theater.

No further details were immediately available.
