Authorities early Wednesday identified the man killed in a shootout at a northwest Atlanta CVS Tuesday night as Michael Holmes, 28, of Atlanta.

A second man was wounded in the 6 p.m. shooting outside the pharmacy, which sits between Marietta Boulevard and Bolton Road.

While the shooting happened outside of the drugstore, Holmes collapsed inside the store, according to Atlanta police.

The wounded man, who was shot “in the lower extremities,” according to a police press release, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation suggests there was at least one other person involved, Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said. It is believed that the man who died and the shooter were acquainted and may have been targeting each other, according to the release.

Channel 2 Action News reported that two men met in the parking lot, words were exchanged, and both pulled out guns and started shooting at each other.

No customers or employees were hurt.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
