An overnight shooting a couple of blocks from Atlanta police headquarters left a man dead.

Channel 2 Action News reported that officers responding to a shooting downtown late Monday night found the victim near the Trinity Street entrance to MARTA’s Garnett station.

“He was in an altercation with another subject down on Broad Street and was shot at that location and ran down and collapsed here on Trinity,” Atlanta police Capt. Jonathan Durant told Channel 2.

The man had been shot at least once in the chest. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Montavious Washington, 18, of Atlanta.

Police have not released a description of a suspect.
