A North Carolina man was sentenced to 20 years Monday after being convicted last week of molesting a young Cobb County girl.

A Cobb Superior Court jury on Friday convicted 60-year-old Rickey Bernard Reid of child molestation, but acquitted him of aggravated sexual battery, according to Kim Isaza, spokeswoman for the Cobb district attorney’s office.

The incident occurred at the child’s Cobb County home nearly two years ago, when the girl was nine years old. Reid was visiting from his home in Charlotte when he entered the girl’s bedroom after she had gone to bed and laid down on the bed.

The victim told investigators that Reid said, “let’s keep things just between you and me,” before kissing her face and fondling her, according to Isaza.

“The girl didn’t know what to do, but told him she needed to get a drink” Isaza said. “She then went downstairs, woke up her mother and said what happened.”

Cobb Superior Court Judge J. Stephen Schuster sentenced Reid to 20 years, with 15 years to serve in prison and the rest on probation.
