A 71-year-old man was killed Thursday morning in a head-on wreck in north Cobb County that closed a busy road for more than two hours, according to police.

John Drinko, of Acworth, was driving westbound on Lake Acworth Drive near Main Street when his vehicle was struck, Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham said. Two other vehicles were also involved in the wreck, but no other injuries were reported. Drinko was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, but did not survive, Cheatham said.

The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. and forced police to close a portion of Lake Acworth Drive until shortly after 9 a.m., Cheatham said. Cobb County police are assisting with the investigation into the crash.

Lake Acworth Drive runs between Cobb Parkway and Glade Road.
