Atlanta police detectives investigating a fatal overnight shooting were trying to determine Wednesday if the incident was related to another deadly shooting in the same area just two weeks ago.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the latest shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Lookout Avenue in northwest Atlanta.

The victim, who the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified as Brandon Burns, 28, of Atlanta, died at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton.

“We do believe that the victim was the intended target,” Hampton told Channel 2.

Jeffrey Williams, 34, was shot to death June 30 in front of a house on nearby St. James Drive.

Officers found a Honda backed up against a utility pole with several bullet holes through the windshield and Williams dead inside.

“We’re not sure if it’s related; it’s too early to tell,” Hampton said. “Obviously, we’ll get the investigators together just to share notes to see if there’s any similarities in the two homicides.”
