Cherokee County authorities are investigating the death Wednesday morning of a motorcyclist.

The victim was on Epperson Road when his motorcycle left the road and struck a utility pole about 11:45 a.m.

A deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was performing CPR when emergency units arrived just after 11:45 a.m. But the man was pronounced dead at the scene, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

The victim was not immediately identified pending notification of next of kin. He was 21, Cavender said.

Both lanes of Epperson Road were blocked temporarily for accident clean-up.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the spokesman said.
