A pedestrian struck by a train in downtown Acworth Monday night has died, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The train was able to come to a complete stop after striking the man, Cheatham said.

“It was a relatively short train,” Cheatham said.

“At this time, it is believed that this incident was the result of a suicide,” Cheatham said late Tuesday morning.
