A man has been arrested in Virginia and charged with murder, accused of killing a woman in South Georgia and stealing her vehicle, authorities said.

Nakia West, 26, of Albany, is being held in a Virginia jail pending extradition, according to a GBI news release. He is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Annie Josie Chappell in Terrell County on Monday. West is also facing a grand larceny charge in Virginia.

Chappell’s 2006 black Hyundai Elantra was previously spotted Monday in Marietta in a residential area in the 300 block of Johnson Ferry Road, the GBI said. West was found driving the car in Greenville, Virginia, just west of Charlottesville, and taken into custody.

The 59-year-old woman, who lived alone, was found dead in her Dawson home, according to police, and her vehicle was missing from the scene. Authorities did not say how she was killed, or if she knew the suspect. A motive in her death was not disclosed.

Terrell County is northwest of Albany, about 165 miles south of downtown Atlanta.
