A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder, less than 24 hours after a shooting at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex left a 64-year-old man dead and another person with non-life threatening injuries.

Just before 12:50 a.m. Friday, Atlanta police responded to a fight call at the Aspen Courts Apartments in the 1600 block of Stanton Road SW, Officer Kim Jones said. “The occupants were uncooperative and refused to talk to police,” prompting officers to leave, she said.

Less than an hour later, police returned to the same address after a person shot call and found a man dead outside the apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest, Jones said. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified him as Willie Grier Jr. of Atlanta. A second person, whose name was not released, had non-life threatening gunshot wounds, Jones said.

In addition to murder, the suspect, Anthony Jason Brown, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault, Jones said in a Friday afternoon email. He is in the Fulton County Jail.
