A man was shot to death Friday night near a dog park in northeast Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded to a hospital around 8:45 p.m. and met with a man who appeared to have been shot, police said. Despite lifesaving efforts, he did not survive his injuries. His name was not released.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred in the 500 block of Piedmont Avenue near the Renaissance Dog Park. Officers said at least one suspect approached the victim and fired at him.

“It appears the victim was the intended target of the gunfire,” a police spokesman said in a news release.

No suspect has been identified as investigators continue gathering information.
